You’re a time poor Londoner and you’ve been asked to organise a night out. You want to try somewhere new but have no idea where to start. Solution – hire a Whitenighter to show you the way. So what is a Whitenighter you ask? Whitenighter is an innovative new service that pairs you with your perfect host for a night out in London, bespoke to your individual nightlife tastes. Recently I was given the chance to try it out.
For my night I selected Elena, a gregarious and well connected Russian Londoner who know’s London club scene well. We started the night off in East London. Elena impressively managed to get us a table at Nightjar an underground speakeasy with old school glamour in Shoreditch – (apparently you usually have to book a month in advance to get a table there).
There we enjoyed a couple of smoking rum based cocktails served out of an iron teapot. Nightjar itself was quite small and intimate – a perfect secret hideaway for a date. Now that I know where it is I will be trying to book it for my birthday.
After that we jumped into a cab to head over to Central London to visit our next venue, Paramount. Paramount is a glamorous restaurant, bar and club on top of the Centre Point building. First stop was the Paramount bar which had amazing views of the city. Here we enjoyed more cocktails (my liver thanks you Elena) before enjoying some bar snacks of fried squid and chips.
After we managed to get past a scary doorwoman (Elena sweet talked the manager) we gained entrance to the Paramount club, which when we arrived was pretty quiet but by 11 had slowly filled up. The music wasn’t my style if I’m honest but the friendly bar men and the views made up for that ;). Here it was more cocktails and bit of seat dancing. There was an option of going to celeb members club Annabel’s but unfortunately a pesky Russian booked it for the night… Next time!
We left the club around 12 to catch the last tube home. (I don’t do night buses haha)
Overall, I really enjoyed my Whitenighter experience, Elena was a perfect host and I got to discover some new places in London that I didn’t know about.
