It’s the first day of a new month and many of us have already broken our New Year’s resolutions. Mine like many was to get fit, loose the flab look in the mirror and see the body of Jessica Ennis… Okay maybe that’s just fantasizing, however Nike are giving us shy about exercising types the chance to redeem ourselves next week by launching Nike Supercharge Week. Now there’s no excuse not to get fit!
Outline of the Supercharge Week

I have a confession, as a young child I had dreams of being a ballet dancer. I even used to stuff the tips of my socks in order to make my own DIY ballet shoes. Of course I grew out of that and being someone who was constantly being told whilst growing up, “stand up straight” “stop slouching” I’ve always been conscious that my posture isn’t great.
I recently started thinking of taking adult ballet classes, but the fear of the leotard and looking like a tit put me off. However, I recently got an email from the nice people at City-Academy asking if I would like to try one of a series of new fitness classes they had launched involving a creative combination of dance and fitness. I chose the All-barre Yoga class which combines the softness and strength of ballet, mixed with the controlled flexibility and toning of yoga and best of all requires no leotard!
So on a Wednesday evening I turned up to class ready to get in shape. Our teacher, Adrian Arroyo is a graduate of the National Conservatory of Ballet in Spain and has 10 years working in the fitness industry. The class started off slowly with some stretching before moving to the barre to perform ballet type exercises. In later part we moved back to the floor to perform some yoga before turning it into a dance routine. Every part of our bodies was stretched to its limits! Now, i’m not going to fib I found some of the moves hard work but trying to get them right helped me focus and de-stress. having no coordination I kept performing moves wrong but our tutor was patient and encouraging and by the end of the class I had worked up a sweat! Obviously I don’t expect one class to turn me into a prima yoga-ballerina but after a few more classes I hope to be walking straighter and feeling less flabby.
