Things to do in London This Weekend

Why are the British so obsessed with weather? Maybe because of its unpredictability? 28 degrees in Autumn…strange. Anyway who cares?! Lets enjoy this freakish weather while it lasts 🙂

Chiswell Street Dining Rooms – Review

Its been a busy couple of weeks socially and I kind of got behind on blogging. Sorry guys! However you are in for a treat as I have discovered a lovely new restaurant that I am sure you will fall in love with. I bring you Chiswell Street Dining Rooms! From the people who own The Cadogan Arms and The Botanist in Sloane Square. Chiswell Street Dining Rooms describes itself as “a modern British restaurant and cocktail bar complete with seven private dining rooms and is now open all day, everyday from 7am serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner”. I was lucky enough to be invited to the opening party last week. This place is a little treat that I recommend everyone should visit (and I am not just saying that because they plied me with free champagne hehe). The interior of the restaurant is contemporary and modern but although it looks sophisticated the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. The restaurant is intimate and there are lovely hidden away areas which would make it perfect for a date or equally a private business lunch. If the food is as good as the canapes we tasted then this place is bound to become a prize winner. They have an extensive wine list and the staff are helpful in making recommendations. The prices of mains range from 12 to 20 pounds so it shouldn’t break the bank! Ah the toilets! Absolutely divine, best toilets I have seen in a long while! They even have diamond encrusted taps! It seems that everything about this restaurant has been well thought out and details have not been overlooked. If you work near Liverpool Street this is the place to experience modern british dining at its best. Lanky Girl is definitely going to be visiting again soon!

Roof top Bars London

The sun is shining, the weather is sweet and you want to move your dancing feet! Or maybe you just want to chill out with a cool glass of champagne and look out at the beautiful London skyline. Well you are in luck, I have searched high and low for London’s best rooftop bars and pubs. See Below.

Vista – Rooftop Bar at the Trafalgar Hotel

The Trafalgar Hotel in Central London is popular with celebrities and London’s trendy folk. Vista is its roof top bar and this summer they have doubled the size to accommodate up 180 people. To accompany the Mediterranean themed bar you can enjoy ambient and chill out tunes. Of course you can also enjoy views of Trafalgar Square and other iconic landmarks from Big Ben to the London Eye. Great for an after dinner drink or for a group of friends wanting to try somewhere new. Vista is open 7 days a week with a £5 pound entry fee. Although £1 of your entry fee will be donated to Cancer Research.

The Boundary – Rooftop

The Boundary Rooftop bar in trendy Shoreditch is the place where hipsters go to be seen. The large bar has seating that surrounds a large fireplace, a 48 restaurant attached and a gorgeous little garden. The rooftop is accessed through a separate lift and you can enjoy panoramic views of Canary Wharf, round to the City’s Gherkin and Barbican, and back again to the rooftops and spires of East London. The bar also includes a large sail-like canopy, heating, festoon lighting and Welsh blankets.

Queen of Hoxton  rooftop

Also in Shoreditch is the Queen Of Hoxton Club and rooftop bar, which now also will be hosting its own film nights.

The Queen’s “Victorian-garden inspired roof” holds up to 200, is fully decked and has a well stocked bar serving summer cocktails, draught beer and cider. The rooftop is open five days a week and after the sun goes down the real fun begins when the roof top film club opens. Lie back and watch old favourites like The Lost boys and Labyrinth on a large screen with wireless headphones. On “chick flick Tuesdays” get the girls together for a bit Bridget Jones. For film listings, tickets and further information visit http://www.rooftopfilmclub.com/

Aqua Spirit Rooftop Terrace

Aqua, just off Oxford Circus. Cafe del Mar type of music, great wines and amazing cocktails. Aqua screams exclusivity and it’s clientale is the glamorous and well-heeled. With beautiful views of Central London’s skyline and with its exotic cocktail offerings, Aqua is a great place to take someone who you want to impress.

Kensington Roof Gardens

Kensington Roof Gardens is undoubtably the king of roof gardens.  Enjoy one and a half acres of themed gardens, situated on the 6th floor some one hundred feet above Kensington High Street.  Take your pick  from one the areas; traditional English, formal Spanish and Tudor to enjoy a cocktail under the summer sun.

Free-for-all-to-attend Lovestruck Laissez Faire Drinks – Review

So yesterday a friend and I made our way to Shoreditch for the Lovestruck London’s mass mingle of singles in the Hoxton Pony. My friend had convinced me that this would be different from other singles events, as there would be no silly games to be played or speed dates. The way that it works is, that if you are single and don’t mind being approached you take a red straw for your drink. We got there around 6.30pm and the bar was fairly quiet, looking around it seemed to be mostly women. Oh dear.. I thought, guess its going to be short dip in the pool then. We got our cocktails, sat down and an hour later the bar was packed!

Looking around we didn’t see many red straws about. Maybe most of the people there were afraid to take one as we were haha! Most of the men there I have to say were either in their  late 30’s or simply not to our tastes but it was interesting to watch the unfolding connections around us. We did see two guys who I’ve nicknamed tag team, who spent the night helping each other to collect numbers. So all in all it wasn’t a bad night. I think that I would go again and it does seem like a cool, low key way to meet people. Maybe next time I will have the courage to pick up a red straw.

Commitment Phobic guys – the love doctor gives his verdict!

Dear WP,

How can I stop attracting commitment phobic men! It’s been 5 years since I actually had a proper boyfriend and frankly I am fed up with meeting guys who convince me that they really like me only for when I start to push for something a little bit more serious they either decide that they just want to be friends or that “they aren’t ready for a relationship”.

I don’t know if it’s me but I can’t seem to keep a man interested long enough to become a boyfriend. Help!

Dear Symone

You say it is 5 years since you last had a proper boyfriend and yet you seem to have been involved in this time with a succession of commitment phobic guys or men you simply cannot keep interested. My first questions to you would be where you are meeting these men? and what attracts you to this particular sort in the first place?

There are guys out there who are totally commitment phobic, but there are also a lot more that want nothing more than to be in a loving and committed relationship with the woman of their dreams.

Maybe you should just relax and not try to be in a relationship so much and just see what comes your way when you date people from a different kind of arena than you are currently prowling. Meet people, including guys, from clubs, associations or groups that interest you, so join some with a friend maybe and meet people you actually have a common interest with already. There are also some good dating websites for people who are just looking for a committed relationship and not a fling.

If you also still meet a guy in a bar or at work that you like then this is fine also, but maybe you shouldn’t try to get him into a relationship. You can’t ‘push’ for a relationship to be more serious, it either is or it isn’t and if it is, a regular guy will want to talk to you about it at some point anyway, with neither party forcing the issue, but rather two people chatting about the exciting possibilities ahead.

Finally, sit yourself down and have a very honest chat with yourself one evening about the guys you have dated over the last 5 years. What is it about them that initially attracted you and why… and what was so different about your last proper boyfriend 5 years ago? because i have a suspicion that there is something in you that likes a certain type, unfortunately one of the traits of this particular type that you like is that they are just not looking for a long term relationship! so shouldn’t be your type in the first place, and yet you seem to think they are.

So, be completely and brutally honest with yourself and say what attracted you to them in the first place and i think then you will see the reason why you keep dating this type… and then it is up to you to change, and maybe look for someone different but better and maybe who has less obvious qualities when you meet them.

Good luck!

Dear WP how can I spot a commitment phobic man?

Today’s question is  fairly common one that comes up when talking to my female friends.  Just how can a girl get a guy to commit? Well hopefully our love doctor can give us insight into why some men come on strong before running away. If you have any questions for our resident love doctor WP you can email them at jdperspective@gmail.com all questions will be posted on the blog but names will remain anonymous.

Buymywardrobe – and my bargain pair of Louboutins!

some of lovely things that were on offer

This morning I was invited by the lovely people from Buymywardrobe to a bloggers preview of their designer recycling event being held at the Supperclub. Feeling a little bit grumpy I nearly didn’t go but I am so happy I did! For half an hour before the event started we were given the leisure to stroll around looking at all the lovely items that the wardrobe mistresses (women with serious designer addictions) were willing to part ways with. Once it hit 12 the women poured in and it was mayhem! I decided the best thing for me to do was wander around and see if anything interested me. I spotted a very nice Vivienne Westwood choker for £85.00 a pair of Versace earrings for 15 pounds!  Having gone around the room twice I decided to come back to have a second look at the earrings to find they were gone! There is no time for dallying when designer wares are concerned. Starting to tire of the crowds I floated to a corner where I looked down and spotted a pair of Christian Louboutin Pigalle pumps in a size 42! Now, if you have larger than average feet you will understand what a pain it can be that designers often stop at a size 7. Now comes the best bit the price…20 pounds! I couldn’t believe it I asked the woman who was selling them are they real? Is that the right price? She said yes and without hesitation I snapped them up. The sole of the shoe is slightly worn so I took them to Christian Louboutin’s shop in Knightsbridge to find out if they can be repaired. They kindly directed me to a cobbler who will fix them for 30 pounds. Needless to say I am a very happy bunny…now i just need to special event to christen these bad boys! Buymywardrobe every recessionista’s secret and now I’ve shared it with you.

Daily Distraction – Something Borrowed

So tonight is Orange wednesday night woohoo. My friends and I will be going to see Something Borrowed. Yes it is a chick flick but it is a bit unusal as it is essentially about cheating people.  Based on Emily Griffin’s novel it has my favourite actress in it Ginnfer Godwin and the leading man is smoking.. read my review in the next post.
