Keeping your financial affairs in order is just part of being an adult in today’s modern world; it’s easy to lose track of incomings and outgoings when we pay for everything by card – and credit cards are all too easy to come by. While thinking about this, I came across a notice for a fun, live event that Experian – those people you might go to if you’re in need of a Experian credit report – are putting on in the Westfield Shopping Centre, White City this coming weekend 17-19th January.
It’s called the Experian Field of Dreams and it looks set to go viral. Experian will be setting up a tree in the centre of the Westfield Shopping Centre, White City, and encouraging shoppers and passers-by to write their financial wishes for 2014 onto pieces of paper and attach them to the tree. Wishmakers will be invited to post their pictures of the tree to Twitter with the hashtag #My2014Dream, as well as being entered into a prize draw to win £500. There is also a Facebook app too, where you can plant your dreams to be in for a chance of winning a daily prize of £150, every week day until the 24th January 2014.
It sounds like a bit of fun, but it also made me think about my financial wishes for 2014; while a ‘wish’ might be all too flimsy and fairytale, we can all do things to make our wishes come true in real life. I’m sure most of us would like to save more and spend less, but I wouldn’t want to do that at the cost of living my life to the fullest. The best I can hope for in 2014 is to make wise spending choices and hopefully add to my savings even if just a little.
The Experian Field of Dreams event, which will be running over three days in January, will no doubt get a lot of shoppers thinking about their financial hopes for 2014, too; and what better time of the year to do it than in January? Of course, some of you will already have thought long and hard about your 2014 financial wishes, and you might have even made it your New Year’s Resolution this year. Well, the good news is that a recent survey by Fidelity Investments suggested that New Year’s resolutions about money were easier to keep than most others – or so say 39% of adults.
No doubt this is the time of year that many of us will be checking our credit reports as we make big plans for spending and investment over the coming twelve months; will 2014 be your year for a new bathroom, a new car, or are you planning on saving every penny you can?
