My Daily Distraction – Bespoke shoes

As well as being tall I have been blessed with larger than average feet, size 8’s to be precise. 🙂

If you read my previous post you will know about love of Manolo’s. Well I’d be lucky if I could ever squeeze my feet in them. Now I know how the ugly sisters felt when Cinderella paraded her feet in those dainty glass slippers. Sigh…Well it seems that a few designers have now started to notice that women’s feet are getting bigger. New Look, Next and M&S all have ranges for those with larger and wider feet. Unfortunately there is often a limited range.  Ladies with larger feet should not despair as fairy godmother is here in the shape of bespoke fashion shoemakers Shoes Of Prey.

Based in Australia but shipping worldwide,  Shoes Of Prey allows you to design the shoes of dreams online and has a large variety of materials from Italian silk to patent leather. Shoes are made to various widths and from sizes 31 – 49 (European). Shoes come in a variety of vibrant colours and you can personalise your shoes with little designer extras. So now you can replicate what you see on the catwalk. 🙂 Prices range from £150 for ballet pumps to £210 for ankle shoes. They have a one year return guarantee and if your shoes don’t fit they will fix them for free.

Idealised version of married life…

Everybody knows that couple that even after years together still looks at each other lovingly and treats each other with warmth and kindness. A friend of mine sent this to me at work today.  Taken from the film UP this clip follows a couple’s life together until the inevitable time comes when they have to part. Warning if you are of the tearful type get some tissues!

Dear JD, I feel like my boyfriend is sponging off me..

Dear JD,

I feel weird writing this but I hoping that you could help me. I am a 29-year-old qualified solicitor and I’ve been seeing this lovely guy for just over 3 years now. Last year we decided to move into together. We get on very well on most levels except the fact that we recently have been arguing a lot over money. Since I earn more than he does (he is  a gardener) I tend to pay the bulk of the expenses at home the bills etc.. but recently I feel like he is taking me for granted. He never takes me out for meals any more and spends most of his money on video games and complains he is always skint. I don’t want to lose him but how can I get him to pay me more attention?

Elsa, Brighton.

Dear Elsa,

My advice Elsa is this. Talk to your boyfriend and tell him exactly what’s on your mind, he doesn’t know how you feel, he probably thinks everything is just fine. Men are often oblivious creatures so you need to spell out the situation to him. Your financial  situation is more complex, do you have bank account together? Maybe get one and both contribute proportionally to what you earn. Don’t let this issue become divisive in your relationship. It’s really not that important. Communicate, and it will be cool.
Good luck.

JD.

Making a souffle..

Souffle’s are easy and quick to make. Today I made one for myself, following the recipe below. Souffle basically means “full of air” but you don’t need many ingredients in order to make it.

Hot Vanilla Souffle Recipe

Hot Vanilla Souffle Recipe with Vanilla Essence, Butter, Flour, Milk, Sugar and Eggs

INGREDIENTS

1 oz (25g) Butter
1 oz (25g) Plain Flour
1/4 pint (150ml) Milk
1 oz (25g) Castor Sugar
Vanilla Essence
4 Eggs

METHOD

Heat the oven Mark 5 or 400F or 200c and have ready a thoroughly greased 6 inch (150mm) souffle dish. Melt the butter in a saucepan and add the flour, cook together gently for 1 minute. Gradually stir in the milk, beating constantly to keep the sauce smooth. Bring to the boil stirring all the time. Remove from the heat, stir in the sugar and vanilla essence – about 1/4 teaspoon depending on the strength of the essence – and leave until the saucepan itself is cool enough to handle comfortably. Beat in the egg yolks one at a time. Whisk the egg whites stiffly and fold carefully through the souffle mixture. Turn into the prepared dish and bake in the centre of the oven for 30-40 minutes. Serve immediately.

My Daily distraction.. Nissan Figaro

I’m meant to be reading up on the joys of HTML 5 but it being a saturday night I am finding it very hard to concentrate…. A friend of mine owns a lovely Nissan Figaro which I have had the joy of being given a lift in once and today I found myself pouring over pictures of them on google. So what is a Nissan Figaro? According to wikipedia:

“The Nissan Figaro is a small retro car manufactured by Nissan. The car was originally sold only in Japan. Despite this, the Nissan Figaro has become popular with owners in the UK and Ireland, given the popularity of second-hand Japanese import cars. Its appearance has a resemblance to the 1960s Datsun Fairlady model.”

Manufactured in 1992, apparently there were only 20,000 made so if you are lucky to own one you should feel very individual indeed. One day I hope to own one myself in daring and slightly cheeky pink. Nissan Figaro retails for around £6000 pounds but sometimes bargains can be found on eBay. Take a look for yourself.
